Genre research

 Hello!

I love movies we all do whether its action, comedy, horror, etc.. genres that I cant seem to stop watching, In my media studies class we are learning about genre which was first used in 1770. when I first started learning about genre I was like okay I know what each genre is but I soon realized that was the case at all  I didn't know as much as I thought I did.Genre was first used in Greek literature for Aristotle's Poetry but the earliest actual film genre ever use was action.

Action- is where the leading characters go into some kind of series where violence, extended fights, chases, and rescues.

Drama- movies with high stakes and lots of conflicts

Horror- a fiction intend to scare or disgust viewers

Comedy- fiction that is intended to be humorous

Crime-fiction crime stories that uses detective and criminals

They way that we used drama in our class is that we made presentations and a poster there’s two other people in my group and each person had a slide they would I did crime analysis which to me was challenging but at same time easy to do there was many different sections of the one thing part and some parts were really discouraging but I go through it. For the poster we were suppose to put everything we learned on there in summarized which was easy since the presentation had all thaw information was already  there.

Below is the poster and my slide in presentation

Cinematography

Cinematography the art and technology of motion picture photography. learning about cinematography was the most fun I’ve had in my media studies class we learn about different angles and conventional uses of them.1800s was when cinematography first started being used when people began combing multiple consecutive photos to create an illusion of an motion picture. The earliest surviving picture is “Roundhay garden scene” which was created in 1888 and was only 2.11 seconds long.I learned about different angles such as long angle shots. Medium shots, close up shot, wide shot, extreme shots, and many more.

I learned about different ways camera shots/angles are used to make feeling come through to the viewer as they are watching the films and how some shots can be used together which can create a whole new shot. When learning about these things I found my self amazed of the different kind of things that  seem to fly over my head but now  more ware of and have knowledge about to understand what the directors are trying tell us.

In class we used these angles doing an assignment about different angles and how they look like. Our teacher allowed to go into the hallways of school to take different pictures that correspond with different camera angles. When finished taking pictures we uploaded them to a document and found other camera angles of the same kind which  are shown below

Mis en scène

You ever looked at a movie poster or any picture and wonder how they perfected each part of Mis en scène in those photographs. Last week we learned about Mis en scène which is the staging or putting on an action or scene. Mis en scène  term use originated from stage drama where it refers to the way actors or scenery props are placed and .The earliest correct use of Mis en scène was in the film “ Citizen Kane” using all the components Composition, design,  lights, setting, and costuming.

What I learned about Mis en scène is that to be able to create such artistic things in film and photographs there’s a lot that goes into it like the set up of lights, props, location, positioning etc… can really make a difference on how the viewer sees it. What I want to learn about if it’s how to better use so that when I’m taking photograph the illusion that I’m wanting to show is recognizable and not the illusion itself .When I first started learning about it I was in awe of how such little details could make a difference.in whatever you’re trying to show to the audience or viewers in movie or scene.

The way that we used Mis en scene in class is we did mini photography. me and my project partner decided that we were going to make an illusion monster truck show with her little brothers, kinetic sand, and a small storage box. We took pictures at certain angles and used our phone flash lights to create more of that stadium type feeling. We put the kinetic sand down to make the dirt look like a little hill that it is going over, we also positioned the truck certain ways so it could look more realistic. though the pictures didn’t turn out as realistic as we wanted we still thought some of them Looked good as you can see below.
